Question to Radhanath Swami: How to control and purify our senses?
Answer: That is a very important question. It’s the essence of life. That question and its answer is the path of perfection. Krishna tells in the Bhagavad Gita that by engaging our senses and our mind, which is our sixth sense, in the service of the Lord, we become purified of all illusory designations.
Question to Radhanath Swami: When only in distress one is able to pray from the heart, otherwise those prayers spring from the mind, and are mechanical offered. Why is it so? Why only in distress does the mind shut down and allow us to pray from the heart?
Radhanath Swami: What you are talking about is sometimes human nature. But we should cultivate a higher standard.
Question to Radhanath Swami : I understand that all the actions that we perform will give back a reaction. But what about the thoughts in our mind? What about the bad thoughts that we don’t act upon?
Radhanath Swami : According to the scriptures, in the time spans Satya yuga, Treta yuga and Dwapara yuga, humans were karmically responsible for every thought.
Question to Radhanath Swami : During meditation, the mind wanders here and there. What to do?
Radhanath Swami : Krishna explains in Gita, “From wherever the mind wanders due to its flickering and unsteady nature, one must certainly withdraw it and bring it back under the control of the self.”. The mind is a small child. The nature of small children is to get into trouble.
