Spiritual Questions and Answers with Radhanath Swami
Question to Radhanath Swami: Swami Ji, we hear about so many learned and dignified personalities from scriptures but I find it difficult to understand that why such learned men go against Lord. For e.g. Bhisma in Mahabharata was a man with high character and knowledge; still he chose to fight against Krishna… please shed some light on this?
Radhanath Swami: Bhisma was always upright, loyal and true in the service of the lord.
Question to Radhanath Swami: Since we give a lot of time to chant Hare Krishna, to read Bhagavad Gita, and to visit temple on festivals, we see that we are not doing justice to our studies or to our profession. So, how to resolve this conflict?
Radhanath Swami: The function of the intelligence is to discern as to what is the best way to balance our life in a way that we are doing the optimum service to the Supreme Lord.
Question to Radhanath Swami from a Student: When we are introduced to spirituality, we realize that what we learn in academics has little relevance from an absolute perspective. Therefore we lose passion for learning mundane things. But after a while, sometimes, we lose passion even for spirituality. So we are left nowhere. Are you getting my point?
Radhanath Swami: That is a very distinguished way of saying that you are lazy (audience laugh.) We shouldn’t be lazy.
Question to Radhanath Swami : Why was Arjuna forced by Krishna to fight?
Radhanath Swami : Arjuna was told to act like a surgeon. If a person has a serious tumor and if it is not cut out, the person dies. So surgery in one sense is violence. It taking a knife and cutting a person, open. Now, open heart surgery is really a violent surgery; the ribcage is cut
