What did you find in Srila Prabhupada, that led you to be a disciple of his?

srila prabhupada

srila prabhupadaQuestion to Radhanath Swami: Speaking of Gurus, yours was Srila Prabhupada, who started the Hare Krishna Movement. What characteristics did you find in him when you met him that led you to be a disciple of his, after having met many holy people on your journey?

Radhanath Swami Answers: I did meet many people who really inspired me, but I kept searching.

And in Vrindavan, the concept of Bhakti and the concept of Krishna – Radha, the male and female aspect of the one Supreme all beautiful loving God, really captured my heart. So I actually became a devotee living in Vrindavan.

And about six months later Srila Prabhupada came there, and I saw how he so authentically represented, through his words and through his life, this very beautiful ancient tradition I had given my heart to. And his words, although in very simple language, resolved so many confusions and apparent contradictions that were in my mind on so many subjects.

And most of all, it was his compassion, his very deep and profound concern and care for the body, mind and especially the souls of others that really moved my heart to want to dedicate my life to assisting in his mission, a mission of just trying to wake up the souls in others to understand this universal principle beyond sectarian or egoistic conceptions of God, religion or God itself.
