Is there a difference between loving our children and loving God?

love-krishnaQuestion to Radhanath Swami: What is the difference between loving our children and loving Krishna, or God?

Answer by Radhanath Swami: The parent-child relationship is based on the body: the child has come from the parent’s body. So when the body dies, where will the love be? That same affection will cause pain, because it is based on the misconception – “We are these bodies.”

But real love is understanding – “I am the eternal soul, and I am part and parcel of the supreme soul Krishna.” That love is eternal, which only increases to a higher dimension after death, and keeps increasing to higher dimensions even in this life. When you have that love, you have real pure unalloyed love even for your children – and everyone else’s children too. Therefore that is perfect love.
